Abkürzungen für Schriftanbieter und Schriftgestalter

Bei den nachfolgenden Abkürzungen handelt es sich hauptsächlich um s. g. Vendor-Codes. Diese Codes sind in der Schrift selbst hinterlegt und kennzeichnen den Hersteller. Normalerweise kann man diesen Vendor-Code nicht sehen; er ist aber gewissermaßen ein Hersteller-Stempel.

Zusätzlich zu den Vendor-Codes gibt es auch Namenszusätze, die zusätzlich zum Schriftnamen auf den Hersteller oder die Foundry hinweisen sollen. Diese Abkürzungen stehen entweder vor oder nach dem eigentlichen Schriftnamen und stellen mit ihm eine Einheit dar. Die Hersteller machen dies, um ihre Schrift-Namen von anderen abzugrenzen und durch diesen Zusatz u. U. schützbar zu machen. Ein Schriftname »Garamond« alleine ist nicht schützbar, eine »Garamond XYZ« (oder »XYZ Garamond«) sehr wohl. Die Namenszusätze sind in der unteren Liste durch einen (*) nach dem Namen gekennzeichnet.

Vendor-Codes und Namenszusätze können parallel auftreten, wobei das eine mit dem anderen nichts zu tun haben muss.
