Hervorgehobene Antworten

Guten Aben Leute!

Vielen dank

-Patrick

In Englisch:

I have to first state that German is not my native tongue. I'm a bookbinder here in Canada and I have an interest in the Franco-Prussian War of 1870. I'm currently binding a book that is covering that topic and therefore have bought a set of Fraktur leadtype to use for the book title on the spine. It arrived in a plastic bag without any sort of identification card to figure out what letter is what. In particular I'm not sure I correctly identified the L in the picture. I'm not sure it's a captial L or simply a ] . Furthermore does anyone know the name of the font?
Many thanks

-Patrick

We can probably help, but can you maybe create better pictures? It’s hard to see anything on the ones above.

(For larger images you need to embed/link them from another source, since our software will scale down all uploaded images.)

Regarding the typeface, I thought of this one at first glance.

You could also achieve a better resolution by splitting the picture in several chunks. Anyway, I would guess that the quality of the photo is an issue as well.

Perhaps you could provide the eBay item #?

 Hallo Everyone!
I'll take better photos today, I apologize for the darker photos, I was really tired and thought they turned out better.
Here's the ebay link

http://www.ebay.de/itm/Buchstabensalat-Fraktur-Bleilettern-12p-4-5-mm-Bleischrift-Lettern-altdeutsch-/321972902733?ssPageName=ADME:X:AAQ:DE:1123

if that link doesn't work, maybe just the photo from the auction does:

Hier mal das ebay-Bild gespiegelt und gedreht ... dann können noch mehr von uns mitraten ...

(PS: Auch beim zweiten Hinsehen ist Ralf mit der Eldorado echt nah dran ... Wow, so gute Augen hätte ich auch gern noch ...)

I took the chance to flop the ebay image, so all of us could have a little more fun figuring what this might be ...

However, the more I look at it the more I think Ralf is right with guessing it's the "Eldorado".

True, Eldorado is much a better match than mine.

But: Are the types on the eBay-pic actually the same they sent to you? I'm not so sure, particularly the «k» looks different, IMHO.

(Hence my guess which was based on the first pics.)

Hello everyone,

I've attached more pictures. I hope they help

Yes what you see in the ebay picures is what I was sent. Hopefully this will help solve the mystery of the font. I wonder if it's from the 1920s-30s?

Regards

-Patrick

Good morning (08:20 CEST), Patrick :)

The new pics are much better, particularly the 164244.jpg , but the others have still too much reflection (to my eyes, at least).

I have an idea — could you take some more detailed pictures, e.g.:

Pic #1: A a  B b  C c

Pic #2: D d  E e  F f

and so forth?

I'm not so sure, particularly the «k» looks different, IMHO.

(Hence my guess which was based on the first pics.)

Now I can explain: the type next to the «K», that's not a «k» — it's a «tz» ;)

This is clearly "Reklameschrift Eldorado", released 1912 (Seemann) or 1910 (Kilimschs Jahrbuch des grafischen Gwewerbes, Band 15). by Otto Weisert, Stuttgart.

And yes, that isn't a Letter "k", but a ligature of t and z, whis is quite often misused as a k.

This is clearly "Reklameschrift Eldorado", […]

[if that's true then EUR 70 something is quite a bargain, I suppose?]

Sorry for the delay, I'll take new photos today. I wasn't feeling well these past few days so that's why I haven't been able to take new ones.

-Patrick

Get well soon!

Hallo Leute,

Heir sind besser bilder!

Also, do anyone have pictures of what this font looks like? It'll help me ensure that I'm identifying each of the lead type correctly

Whoops, posting the pictures put them out of order! Sorry everyone

-Patrick
